Higher Education Scholarship (STEM Field)
Littleton-South Metro Branch American Association of University Women
The American Association of University Women (AAUW), founded in 1881 and the oldest women’s organization in the United States, seeks to advance equity for women and girls by breaking through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance. By providing a higher education scholarship to a student graduating from Arapahoe Community College, the Littleton-South Metro branch of AAUW seeks to further this mission at the local level.
Purpose:
To enable an Arapahoe Community College student who has earned an associate’s degree to continue her pursuit of a four-year degree in a STEM field (pure sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics). The scholarship of $1000 shall be used for educational purposes while attending college.
Qualifications:
- The recipient must be a woman.
- She must be able to demonstrate that she is on track to complete an associate’s degree in a STEM discipline by the end of the Spring 2014 semester.
Basis for Selection:
- The above qualifications are met.
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Demonstrates a need for financial assistance.
- Consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to advancing equity and positive societal change for women and girls.
Application Process:

- A personal statement (500 words or less) describing how and why you became interested in pursuing a career in one of the STEM disciplines and how you plan to use your knowledge to promote the national and local goals of AAUW after graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation of which two (2) should be from college instructors, including an instructor in the student’s major. The third letter should be from an employer, coach or religious leader who is familiar with your abilities, personality and goals.
- College transcripts showing all college work completed. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Deadline:
The ACC Foundation Office must receive applications, including transcripts and letters of recommendation by April 1, 2014.
